The Christmas Tree Cluster - NGC 2264

 
The area around the Chrismas Tree Cluster in the constellation Monoceros.

The Christmas Tree Cluster is a group of stars approximately 2400 light-years distant. In this same region of space is some nebulosity referred to as the Cone Nebula due to its characteristic shape. A small amount of the nebulosity is visible in this image, but the vast majority of the nebula does not appear here. This image is a 20 minute exposure through an 80mm refractor Fuji ISO 800 color negative film.
